- There is an £8 million budget needed to complete the HMR projects in Tranmere and Rock Ferry. Nearly £2million is still needed to complete the clearances in Tranmere. Bids have been put in and we should know how much if any money will be forthcoming by "end of July"
- The latest date notified for action on connection of the substation to the former Abakan site is September. This will involve running a power line from Leighton Road. We were previuously told that this may take three months to completion so the earliest date for any building on the site must now be in 2012. I will be surprised if there is any visible action within 12 months from today.
Grass cutting on the derelict sites is being addressed in discussions between the Council and Lairdside Together. Meanwhile - a small guerilla gardening project has been started by yours truly along the side of the green fencing on the side of 19 Seymour Street. If anyone wants to help me extend this to other places on the same site or other sites - let me know. The council's speed is glacial so if we want these sites improved we are probably going to have to do it ourselves.
We were told that there will be no more major "improvement" (sic) projects by the Council. They have dropped back 10 years in their approach to concentrate on the the protection of the quality of the existing housing stock. If only HMRI had never been pursued and we had put a tiny proportion of the almost £50million wasted on it, into improvements - how great would Tranmere be now?
In Tranmere and Rock Ferry we were told that the new target is for 700 new homes to be built (by the private sector) and this will take another 7 to 10 years.
From Rock Ferry residents we heard about problems of abandoned build projects with half built houses and fears about the project at Rock Ferry High School which some felt would create a vandalism hotspot for local youth.
